(FOX Providence) - It's right about now, in the dead of winter, that an island getaway seems pretty good. There's a tropical escape that's close to home, but feels like it's a world way.
It's known as one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. Flamenco Beach is on Culebra, a tiny island between Puerto Rico and St. Thomas.
It's part of the U.S., so you won't need a passport to get there. But, a sip of cold coconut water straight from the source, is practically required.
There's not much else to do on the island besides relaxing, but if you're restless, a short ferry ride to Puerto Rico will land you in the thick of things.
The rain forest in the mountains above San Juan could be a difficult tangle of to tour. But if you're up for it, miles of zip-lining cable is a fast and fun way to traverse the treetops.
Then again, the beaches of San Juan took pretty good too.
And, when you're done drinking in the sun and adventure, world class shopping and dining await. All from a commonwealth which, this time of year, looks nothing like Massachusetts.
