Mom on a mission to increase literacy

Audrey McClelland competing against mom across US

(FOX Providence) - Audrey McClelland, is a local mom who is on a mission to increase literacy in Rhode Island. She's competing against other moms across the country to try and help their community, in a sweepstakes sponsored by Lifetime.

Audrey's challenge is almost complete, and she's sharing her experience on lifetimemoms.com .

"When I first started off on this journey, I wasn’t sure what to expect. I knew I wanted to spread the importance and the benefit of increasing literacy, but I never imagined the fulfillment and true satisfaction it would give me in seeing others do the same. It’s quite amazing what we can do with a cause ... and see how far we can make it go," said McClelland.

She says this whole experience has been so meaningful to her, and has left her speechless.

"My sons have always loved to read, and we’ve always read to them, but it’s more meaningful now. There’s a connection now that’s more than just a physical act of reading together; it’s emotional too. From the first week in stating my goal, to seeing over 250 books be donated to my sons’ school and the start of a community come together to create a Reading Garden, it has left me speechless."

Be sure to vote for your favorite Clean Start Challenge Team - the winners will receive $10,000 to donate to the charity of their choice!

Audrey McClelland is no stranger to books. She has a book of her own called The Digital Mom Handbook, coming out in July.

About The Digital Mom Handbook:

"From the founders of ClassyMommy.com and MomGenerations.com , the ultimate guide to how moms can blog, vlog, skype, tweet, and Facebook their way to a successful career at home by doing what they already do online—just better.

Mothers have been looking for the middle ground for more than half a century. Staying at home and raising the kids full-time isn’t it. Working full-time and rushing home to tuck the kids in at 7 p.m. sharp ain’t it either. Even part-time work outside the house can be a scramble for most women, as they try to “have it all” between 9 am and 5 pm. To work or not to work? That seems to be the bottom-line question for most women today."
