(FOX Providence) - Every year Bryant University holds a Public Speaking Colloquium in an effort to encourage students to showcase their oratorical skills. Professor and lecturer, Susan Baran and President of Bryant's speaking and writing organization, The Podium, Todd Stewart, joined The Rhode Show to discuss the importance of tonight's event.
Sponsored by The Hanover Group, and hosted by our own Mike Montecalvo, the Public Speaking Colloquium is known at Bryant for being the "American Idol of public speaking."
Baran said, "The top criteria in determining job attainment and success are writing skills, speaking skills and critical thinking." This particular speaking competition is just one way of helping prepare students for what lies ahead after graduation.
Stewart, a junior at Bryant, formed The Podium with three other students to help others who may fear public speaking. "It's such an important task. This really helps students especially going into the business world."
The event is open to the public and will take place Monday night at 7pm. For more information visit www.bryant.edu .
