GLOCESTER, R.I. (WPRI) - The search for a missing Glocester police officer has officially been suspended as of Wedneday evening.
Rescue crews along with volunteers have been searching Pulaski State Park in Chepachet for four full days with still no sign of Officer Michael Hopton. They covered 6,000 acres, or about 15 square miles.
State Police would not say Wednesday if they knew the circumstances behind Hopton's disappearance.
"The botton line is, how long can you search for somebody, if they don't want to be found?", said Lieutenant Colonel Steven O'Donnell.
The search for Hopton began, after he failed to show up for his shift at midnight Sunday.
His family said they last saw him Saturday, when he went to work out. He was known to jog, hike, and ride his bicycle in Pulaski State Park. Police found his car there Sunday, but said he had left his jogging equipment and bicycle at home.
If anyone has information on Hopton's whereabouts you are asked to call police.
