PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - A Providence man has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for his role in an April home invasion in which a mother and son were shot.
Attorney General Peter Kilmartin says 20-year-old Evan Perez pleaded guilty on Thursday to assault with a dangerous weapon and other charges for forcing his way into a Cranston home on April 21. He was sentenced to 15 years in prison to be followed by a suspended sentence of 20 years during which Perez will be on probation.
Prosecutors say Perez and his co-defendant, Karany Chhay, were both masked when they broke into a basement and demanded money from 18-year-old Marcus Goodrich. Goodrich and his mother, Susan, were shot during the struggle.
Chhay is scheduled to go to trial on Oct. 25.
